Introduction

Haidong Gumdo, often referred to as the "Way of the Korean Sword," is a modern martial art deeply rooted in the rich heritage of Korean swordsmanship. With its origins dating back centuries, Haidong Gumdo has evolved into a comprehensive system of sword techniques, philosophy, and discipline. Founded in the 1980s by Grandmaster Jeong-Ho Kim, Haidong Gumdo seeks to preserve and promote the traditional art of the sword while adapting it to contemporary times. Embracing a holistic approach to martial arts training, Haidong Gumdo emphasizes not only physical skill but also mental focus, spiritual development, and ethical principles. Through the study of forms, cutting techniques, sparring, and meditation, practitioners of Haidong Gumdo embark on a journey of self-discovery, personal growth, and mastery of the sword. Whether practiced for self-defense, physical fitness, or cultural enrichment, Haidong Gumdo offers a transformative experience that transcends mere combat techniques, instilling values of respect, integrity, and harmony with oneself and others.
